About Me

Paul Wright

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

From an early age I was interested in art, sketching and doodling in pencil on scrap paper. In Art classes through junior high and high school, I was able to experiment with other media, such as paint, pastels, and charcoal. My first foray into digital art was in high school with a Computer Graphics course. I took well to the course, making several designs that impressed my teachers, and took all 3 levels of the 3-credit course, including taking the 20-level course in both of the 3 available 3 credit slots. After graduating, I took a year off from education to decide what I would do. During this year I returned to pencil sketches and began experimenting with other styles of digital art and the use of a drawing tablet. In 2018, I was asked to design the logo for NAIN Connect 2018. Although this was volunteer work it gave me the experience of designing work to please a client. In the fall of that year, I began studies at NAIT in Visual Communications. This stream focuses on far more than graphic design, expanding my skills into web design, creative writing, and traditional art. The main focus remained graphic design, and I was able to gain valuable experience in designing posters, onesheets, and printing techniques. In 2020, the courses went online thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic,During the pandemic I also became the volunteer videographer for Spirit West United Church. I was able to teach myself video editing, audio recording, and how to use the software required.
